April thoughts and...

Well so much for blogging every week, I'm not even making it to my blog every month.

I'm here now and I want to just share a thought and scripture for today...

I haven't been as faithful to my daily reading schedule as I need to be, and I'm now stating that as a goal to get back on track and continue forward from where I am...

Today's Reading was from Psalm 95 which is one of my favorite Psalms (I have a lot of favorite Psalms) I was just going to post a verse, however the first 7 verses stand out to me today:

Psalm 95

Come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come to him with thanksgiving.
Let us sing psalms of praise to him.
For the Lord is a great God,
a great King above all gods.
He holds in his hands the depths of the earth
    and the mightiest mountains.
The sea belongs to him, for he made it.
His hands formed the dry land, too.
Come, let us worship and bow down.
Let us kneel before the Lord our maker,
    for he is our God.
We are the people he watches over,
    the flock under his care....

Whenever I read this Psalm I have a song come to mind, and it is a good reminder that we need to remember, He is a reason to be joyful and to constantly thank Him for all we have!!!

My Granny Square Baby Blanket...

This post was scheduled to post in March and somehow it didn't make it...I will come back and add photos when/if I have extra time to come finish this blanket (maybe over the summer :-) )

I love crocheting and knitting and wish I were better at it and had more time.

Well I wanted to make a baby blanket, I have attempted it many times somewhat unsucessfully. The blanket I attempted before this one is still sitting in my unfinished project box, I ran out of the correct color of yarn and can't find the pattern I was using so I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do.

When I started this blanket I wasn't really planning on posting a tutorial, hense the lack of step by step photos...

However I ended up somewhat writing my own pattern (well making it up as I went) however it is pretty simple. I couldn't find a pattern for a one piece granny square baby blanket that I liked. So I made this one up...

I started mostly the same as a normal granny square,

Chain 5 and join in a circle.

Round 1:
Chain 3 (1st double crochet) do 2 more double crochet in the circle created by the initial chain, chain 2, (3 double crochet chain 2)...repeat ( ) until you have 4 corners.

Where I stopped with the first is where I started Round 2, following the same pattern in the corners I did two sets of 3 double crochet with a chain 2 in between them for a corner. (I started the first double crochet as 3 chains to start the next round)

After several rounds I realized that I was starting at the middle of the row instead of at the corners, so I slip stitched to the corner and then started the next round.

About the same time I realized it was going to be more square than what I was wanting, so I did a round where I slip stitched across one side in a couple of the stitches near the corners I would slip stich into the front and back of the stich so I didn't have the edges curling up, then ( 3 double crochet, chain 1 ) across the next, slip stich 3rd side, ( ) fourth side.

Then I did a couple normal rounds.

Then another slip stich, ( ) round to make it a little more rectangular in shape.

I also did a few rounds with 2 chain between all the 3 double crochets on the sides to make sure it wasn't curling up.

Sorry for the yucky directions, let me know if you have any questions and I'll see if I can answer them...
